In the last post, we talked about the benefit of studying abroad. When people mention the benefit of studying abroad, most of them think about the â€Å"personal benefit†, such as honing the language skills, taking in a new culture and experiencing different styles of education. Argument for and against the Benefits of ABC It is argued that the activity based costing provides a rationale basis for allocation of the fixed overhead cost to the products. Under the activity based costing, the overheads are allocated to the products on the basis of consumption of resource identified with reference to different activities (Salem and Mazhar, 2014). Further, it is argued that detailed analysis into the activities is carried out in the activity based costing which helps to correlate the fixed overheads to the products in a better way. The conventional costing system which allocates the overheads to the products by using volume based cost drivers such as machine hours, labor hours, and units produced may result in distorted view of the allocated cost. The cost distortion is particularly possible when the overhead cost comprises significant of fixed cost which is derived by the non-volume based cost drivers (Salem and Mazhar, 2014). Therefore, in order to avoid the situations of cost distortion, it is essential to adopt activity based costing system to allocate the overheads. Further, it is argued that since the activity based costing provides rationale basis for allocation of the overhead costs, therefore, it also helps the management in taking optimal decisions in regards to product additions and deletions (Salem and Mazhar, 2014). The true and correct picture of the cost profitability will be available with the manager and thus, possibility of suboptimal decisions is reduced. Though, the activity based costing is quite useful, but it suffers from certain limitations and challenges. In this regards, it is argued that the activity based costing requires changes in the accounting and reporting system at a large scale. The changes in the accounting and reporting system may disrupt the operations. Further, the activity based costing involves high costs; therefore, it may not be suitable for the small concerns (God il, Hasan, and Abid, 2013). Industrial award System It is crucial to understand that fair remuneration is necessary to keep the employees motivated to do hard work. In the case of Stylish Ltd, the employees are paid on hourly basis and there is no incentive plan as such in place. In this case, the employees who are being hired on monthly pay basis would be disheartened to work harder because they do not get any additional benefit for working beyond the fixed working hours. Thus, keep the employees motivated, it is essential for Luis Franco, the CEO, to formulate an attractive incentive or bonus plan (Atkinson, 2008). For this purpose, the following plan can be considered by the CEO for implementation: Hourly wages $ 20.00 Fixed hours Weekly 40 Incentive rate (150% of hourly rate) $ 30.00 Penalty for faulty work 50% of incentives earned In the plan provided above, the employees will have to work for 40 hours a week and for which they will be paid at $20 per hour. Due to slow working of Frank, the output is low and the labor cost increases high. In order to tackle this situation, it is necessary that the manager links the incentive plan to the output of the workers rather than the number of hours worked. Conclusion The report provides discussion on the benefits and limitation of activity based costing from which it could be concluded that the activity based costing system is quite useful for optimal decision making. Sports Medicine Today in sports athletes endure many mental and physical obstacles from there competitive environment. Many of today's best athletes work with sports psychologists to help them handle the pressures found in this competitive atmosphere. One question that athletes ask is, why cant they play in big games as well as they anticipate themselves doing? Sports psychologists feel that spending all their time on body conditioning and athletic skills will not ensure that athletes reach their peak performance. Through various studies, psychologists conclude that the psyche aspect must also be in shape to maximize the performance potential in sports as well as education or running a business corporation. Psychologists conclude that by fine-tuning athletic skills, and making real-life movements more automatic, it will install a sense of calmness as athletes prepare for the pressure of competition. They call this technique guided imagery. They use this technique for the mental aspect of fundamental skills. Psychologists recommend that athletes mentally practice their events on the eve of competition. When it comes to sports, the winning edge throughout the world of sports may have less to do with strength and talent, and more to do with, what sports psychologists call it, mental toughness. Sports psychologists James Loehr, calls mental toughness, the ability to handle and even enjoy the psychological pressure of a competitive situation. (Harry Hurt, 1996, p.12) Many of today's best athletes seek help from sports psychologists, in order to help them with their overall game. Negative thoughts and psychological pressure from competitive moments; create many distractions for athletes who do not focus mental pictures in their minds. A vivid picture, is one that allows individuals to see stress and negative thoughts as a challenge, rather than a threat. Psychologists assist athletes in coping with many obstacles that might occur, so that when they get in a pressured dilemma, they can react quickly to the situation. Prior to the 1992 Olympics sports psychologists James Loehr, spent a considerable amount of time mentally preparing Jansen's mind to set high goals, so that he wouldn't repeat failure, as he experienced, in the last two Olympics. (Harry Hurt 1996, p.12) Psychological pressure has a major effect on athletes' performance and individual ability, rather than the physical state. Psychologist tries to set high standards for athletes to maintain poise and discipline. Athletes must make sacrifices, in witch they have to follow steps in order to complete these tasks: first, relax, and let your mind replace all the negative thoughts with positive ones. Secondly, learn from mistakes and make adjustments. To achieve ultimate physical performance it is necessary for one's mind and body work in tandem. The mind is a message center that allows the body to accomplish whatever it wants. Coaches and psychologists believe your mind determines, how fast, you can achieve your goals. Psychologists feel as though, with out self-confidence in yourself, nothing really matters, because in your heart and mind, your have already classified your self as a failure! In Today's field of work, sports psychologist are trying to use different techniques to improve athletes' performance. After comprehensive research and development, psychologists came up with the following findings: first, athletes who view stressful situations as a threat, produce hormones and chemicals in their body that can impair physical and mental performance. (Harry Hurt, 1996 p.12) Second, athletes who meet as a challenge create a rush of adrenaline and sugar inside their body. According to medical sources this is called a natural high, which is responsible for athletes exceeding in their performance. Additionally, James Loehr believed that, the findings mentioned above are difficult to perform, but players that develop self-discipline to commit themselves to do it right, succeed in the sports world, as well as life in general. Musicians, actors, professional business executives, sprinters, and athletes are different in terms of their size, quickness, thinking ability, movement and other characteristics associated to this group. To be successful James Loehr has several techniques that are implement into their daily activity that will make them very successful. According to all his research, it all comes down to is, being able to do these things techniques on constant bases and one performance will be far better than the average person will. These techniques will provide the ingredients, in order to allow their brain to clearly see the task before them. The first technique used by many psychologists is called, replace the pain. Now a days, more and more juvenile delquents are commiting more crimes and getting away with easy pushinment. Laws should make more strict laws against minors who commite crimes, and then maybe, the crime rate for minors would decrease. Everyday, minors get put in positions to choose right from wrong. Do you think that minors who choose to do wrong think twice about the consequences? Maybe they get put into that position to do wrong by peer pressure. They have friends who influence them and get dragged into a worse position. They want to be able to feel like they are a part of the in crowd. The more influenced they get, the more they want the adreanline rush of breaking the rules. Some minors get a pleasure of breaking the rules. They think that its funny, and just as long as its not them getting hurt, it doesn't bother them on bit. Parents play a big role in most of these Juvenile deliquents lives. If parents are not around to teach their kids right from wrong, where else are they suppose to learn from? They watch crimes being commited on T.V and want to be exactly like that. Some parents could care-less. But I believe its not intentionally, maybe they are drug addicts, alcoholics, or in prison. And sometimes, parents want to only make their child happy, and let them run wild and do whatever they please. If parents worried more about their children's future and less about making them happy, do you think the minority crime rate would go down? Minors should have more stricter laws for commiting crimes. It is important that the crime rate for minorities decrease, before in the future increases my a very high percentage. Success of an activity depends on the collaborative efforts of the leader and the subordinates. In the discussion that follows, we start our hypothesis by emphasizing on the need for unity in a team to make the leadership effective. Many organizations of today have given much importance on leadership because good leadership enhances quality and improvement. Visionary Leadership and Strategic Management (Westley & Mintzberg, 1989) Westley and Mintzberg (1989) attempted to define leadership and management in the era of the eighties when organizations were becoming more complex and globalization was beginning to take root within organizations. Strategic vision emerged and the authors described it as one that came out from the concepts of strategy and leadership. Managers have to have vision for their organizations and their products. A leader must have a strategic vision – vision for a product, service, or his/her organization. This is known as visionary leadership which is a part of strategic management. Visionary leaders vary according to the type of vision they have for an organization or product. For example, Steve Jobs had a vision for Apple Computer. In the 1980s, Jobs saw a kind of revolution in his mind and imagination. He wanted to figure this out and so worked with all his efforts to materialize his vision. This was cut short when he was ousted as CEO of the company he founded. When he was re-hired in the 1990s, he worked again on his vision for Apple until the company and the products he had envisioned materialized. Today, there i s what we call strategic management in the context of HRM and total quality management (TQM). This kind of management must have evolved from the strategic vision concept of Westley and Minztberg (1989). b. Transcendental Leadership (Cardona, 2000) There have been various definitions of leadership but Cardona quoted Rost (1991) in defining it as focusing on â€Å"exchange relationship†. The concept emphasizes relationship between leader and followers or subordinates, rather than on the qualities of the leader. But a transformational leadership emphasizes on the qualities and behaviour of the leader since subordinates trust their leaders because of their qualities and behaviour. Relational leadership has two types. Economic relationship focuses on the relationship of the chief of the office or organization and his/her subordinates. But their relationship is limited to the contents of the employer-employee agreement where both have explicit rights and privileges. The other type – social relationship – covers a relationship which is not bound by the obligations of a contract. Inside the business organization, the relationship of the boss and the employee concerns meeting the needs of the latter, for example the needs of the employee’s family at the same time his obligation to please his/her employer.
